The Chasm

Hello, everyone! If you’ve navigated to this page then you’re probably curious as to who this MantaRei character is, no? Or perhaps you’re wondering why someone would invest their time into a blog site when there’re so many other options out there? Well, hopefully I can answer some of those questions and ease that gnawing anxiety. In fact, there’s actually a post on this site diving into some good detail about me and who/what I am; that post can be found here, but just for you I’ll highlight some of the more important things to know…

The main purpose of this site is just a place for me to put down my thoughts and ideas, host things I’ve written, and chronicle the various endeavors I find myself in. There is no grand scheme, no great monetization plan, nothing like that. Just a simple man interested in what it would be like to have a corner of the internet to call his own.

So who is this guy? Here are a few pieces of trivia:

• The “Manta” of MantaRei is actually a contraction of my real-world name when written in katakana, the Japanese phonetic alphabet for non-native words; the “Rei” is just a stylized form of ray, as in manta ray
• MantaChasm was (still is, actually) the name of my Discord server I use for my community. The vision was of a large manta gliding effortlessly through a deep underwater chasm, thus the MantaChasm: a place for me–MantaRei–to visit and spend my time
• I have a wide variety of interests: video gaming, computers, technology, fish-keeping, crafting, anime and cosplay, landscaping, Bonsai, sailing, drawing and writing, to name a few

This site, as well as the “MantaRei” YouTube channel are outlets for me to share what I enjoy. When I started all of this I was very unsure of what I would attempt to create, or even if I had anything to offer the internet as it’s so full of content already. I’m still not sure about that last part, but the website gets traffic and the YouTube channel has a handful of subscribers which is great! Seeing the feedback and activity on my outlets inspires me to keep creating, and I want to thank everyone who hangs out both here and on the channel: your viewership is valued more than you know. Thank you.

And now for some information about the man behind the curtain… The first and most important thing to know is that I have a lovely, wonderful wife and now a son, both of which mean the world to me. We have two dogs and two cats, a beautiful suburban home, and are very fortunate in all of the wonderful things we have. My wife and I met in the second grade with our lives separating and then intertwining on and off until 2015 when we were reunited again and started dating. One year later we were married and now our lives are forever connected, never to separate again.

Along the way I graduated from college with a B.S in Biology and then found myself as the “Systems & Network Administrator” for a medium-sized company reporting to the CTO of our parent company. I love my job and it’s offered me many opportunities to learn and master IT, a blessing considering I had no formal training on the subject while I was getting my BIOLOGY degree…

Now I’m the IT Manager for a law firm and loving every minute of it. As an IT professional working full time as well as a husband and a father I don’t have unlimited time to devote to my hobbies and interests, but I appreciate the time I do have and all those that choose to spend it with me.
